For Immediate Release

World Class Boxers Unite To Fight Muscular Dystrophy

On Sunday 16th

of August, four World Champion Boxers will feature in a new national

awareness campaign Fight MD.  Kostya Tszyu, Paul Briggs, Barry Michael and Sam

Soliman have all offered to lend their support to the campaign, which will be launched at

The Return of the King at Central Pier Docklands, Victoria.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is launching the campaign with the help of MDA long

time supporters such as Former World Boxing Champion Barry Michael.

“Five years ago I became involved with the MDA after meeting a young fellow by the name of

Ryan Struk. Ryan is very well advanced with this debilitating horrific disease. I have since

pedaled the length of Vietnam for Muscular Dystrophy and now look forward to the Fight MD

campaign to raise awareness of MD in Australia” says Barry Michael.

Boris Struk is the executive director of the MDA and the creator of the Fight MD campaign.

“We wanted to highlight the different fight that boxers and kids with Muscular Dystrophy face

for the campaign. Our aim is to raise public awareness nationally about this disorder that affects

so many Aussies. The campaign will be featured in a variety of publications in coming months

to garner support for Muscular Dystrophy” says Boris.

August 16 will see Sam Soliman return to the ring in the much anticipated showdown with

Sintung Kietbusaba in Box on the Docks 6. Promoters Brian Amatruda and Barry Michael

Sports have teamed together with the MDA in launching the Fight MD campaign before Sam

Soliman fights..

Muscular Dystrophy is a muscle destroying disease that affects 1 in every 1,000 Australian

men, women and children.  Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the most severe, confining boys as

young as 8 to wheelchairs, and takes their short lives in their second or third decade. To date

there is no cure.
