Western Crusaders Pathway to Success

The West's only gridiron combination has been in pre-season training since late November 2010 in preparation for the 2011 season which gets underway in May. And if the response to the club's call for players is any indication it could be another bumper year for the Western Crusaders.
When speaking with President Scott Hayden, and Head Coach Glenn Parke of the Western Crusaders, things are looking really good, really exciting.

"The lead-up to the 2011 season started some months ago now and currently, with the attendance and enthusiasm climbing, we can move from fundamentals and into understanding the game" President Scott Hayden said.

He went onto say "the great thing about our game is that we need the fast guys, small guys, and you need your strong guys, your big guys. Everyone has got a job to do".

One doesn't have to go far to view the team developing, just standing on the sidelines, you can see what was many individuals, is now starting to take shape as a nucleus or a team.

This year, the 2011 Western Crusaders shall be led by their new Head Coach, Glenn Parke.

Glenn Parke spoke to us about the changes to the club, the league and some insider tips on what to expect in the weeks to come.

"Well, we're 23 days into the New Year and the Western Crusaders have seen change already. A change at the top with me stepping into the Head Coaches position allows the club to settle after a year of challenges on the field and in competition" he said. "A change to the league with new teams entering or trying to enter into the 2011 Senior season and lots of new faces, some we wont see back at the club over the next few months."

The Western Crusaders have seen interest in the sport rise over the past months and with the ideal location of the Crusaders, places them in prime position to develop players that have the passion and desire to play the game. "The game has been in Australia for 25+ years now and if we want it to continue we've got to develop the players and staff", Parke said.

Glenn Parke went on to say, "Over the many weeks to come we will still see some hard running but shall transition into playing mode and begin contact drills. This will give everyone an opportunity to 'dust' off the helmets and shoulder-pads before we look to scrimmage".

With only 89 days until the start of the 2011 Season, the Western Crusaders seem to be on the right path. Progress at training has been travelling well and the Western Crusaders team is starting to increase on last year's numbers.

Training continues each Wednesday night from 6.30pm and Sunday from 10.00am. Get on down and join in on the fun!
