SENIORS HAVE-A-GO DAY A BE ACTIVE EVENT

Its that time of year again when the Seniors Recreation Council of WA
presents its annual Have-a-Go Day 2009. This years event is on Wednesday
28 October at Burswood Park, along Great Eastern Highway, between
8.30am and 3pm.
Have-a-Go Day is a free event that allows seniors (Over 45s) to try a range of
sporting and recreation activities and hopefully go on to join a sport or
recreation club. It also provides a large range of displays that present
information on a wide range of topics.
Last year, in excess of 12,000 people attended the event, and this year is
expected to be bigger and better with 200 sites.
A thrilling line-up of activities includes a climbing wall, pole walking, tennis, tai
chi and archery. Participants can also try their hand at dry casting, golf,
canoeing and a Nintendo Wii Fit simulated exercise.
Floral & travel displays will also be present and the North Coast Marine
Modellers and Australian Model Ship Society will have a model ships on
display and on the lake.
The official opening will be conducted by the Minister for Seniors Hon Robyn
McSweeney. The opening will begin at 9.25am and include the launch of the
Living Histories CD.
Channel 7 personalities such as Monica Kos, Sally Bowrey, Tina Altieri,
Emmy Kubanski, Ric Ardon, Basil Zempalis and Fat Cats mum will be in
attendance throughout the day and Curtin Radio 100.1FM will be doing an on-
site broadcast all day.
Special services on offer throughout the day include free tea, coffee and water
from the hospitality tent sponsored by Have a Go News, eye sight testing by
the Lions Eye Institute, hearing test by the Lions Hearing Institute and the
Royal Life Saving Society will be providing three first aid sites.
