RICHIE BENAUD BAGGY GREEN FOR SALE
No cricket collection is complete without a baggy green, and the prized caps are those worn by Australias
legendary captains.
One of the greatest was Richie Benaud who captained Australia from 1958 for 28 Tests and earned the
distinction of never losing a Test series. Under his watch, Australia became the dominant team in world
cricket.
English-born Australian journalist, Gideon Haigh, described Benaud as "... perhaps the most influential
cricketer and cricket personality since the Second World War." These views were echoed by Sri Lankan
cricket writer Harold de Andrado who wrote: "
next to Sir Don Bradman (Benaud) has been one of the
greatest cricketing personalities.
Richie Benauds baggy green is being offered for sale by Leski Auctions on Wednesday, November 5th at
5.30pm. It has a pre-sale estimate of $20,000 - $25,000.
Benaud is one of the few sportspeople in Australia to carve out an international career as a broadcaster,
says Charles Leski. He is arguably the most influential person in world cricket, not only as an inspirational
player and leader but through his work as a commentator for the Nine Network and the BBC.
