RECORD RESULT FOR PHAR LAPS RACING BRIDLE
He may have died in 1932, but Australias greatest racehorse is still setting records.
A racing bridle belonging to the legendary Phar Lap sold in Melbourne last night for $32,000 including
commission, having eclipsed the presale estimate of $3,000 - $4,000 by a considerable margin.
Spirited bidding, reminiscent of Phar Laps emphatic track victories, accompanied lot 377 at Leski Auctions.
It proves yet again the resilience of this extraordinary horse, said auctioneer Charles Leski.
It also proves in these straightened times that some historical memorabilia is recession-proof because it is
tangible and it connects us to our past.
Mr Leski said the auction house was aware of the interest well before the auction. He said that enquiries for
the lot had been received from the United States, England and Asia. The lot was sold to an unnamed buyer
from Australia.
The second part of Auction 343 will be conducted this evening from 5.30pm. Among the lots for sale is a
remarkable collection of apothecary and pharmaceutical items and celebrity photographs from the former
Rockmans Regency Hotel in Melbourne.
