NAVY GEORGE BASS SURFBOAT MARATHON: 

SPONSORSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT AND LAUNCH

WEDNESDAY, 18 NOVEMBER 09

BULLI BEACH, NSW


What:

Commander Fleet Air Arm, Commodore Tony Dalton and Greg

Malavey from the Australian Surf Rowers League will announce the

Navy naming rights sponsorship, and launch the 2010 Navy George

Bass Surfboat Marathon.


Where:

The headland of Bulli Beach Surf Life Saving Club (look out for the

signs).


When:

4:30pm Wednesday, 18 November 2009 


Media note: 

Commodore Dalton will be arriving at Bulli Beach by Navy helicopter surf boats,

along with the crew at 4:30pm.

Life savers and rowers from the Bulli Surf Life Saving Club will be available for

interview as will Chris Wilson, who has competed in every George Bass marathon

from its inception.  


Interviews with serving Navy personnel from Team Navy will also be available.    



Background:

Navy is again the naming rights sponsor of the George Bass Surfboat Marathon for

2009/10.

The marathon is a biannual event in which both male and female surf boat crews

compete over a consecutive period of seven days.

The teams row their surfboats along 180km of the south coast of NSW from

Bateman’s Bay to Eden between 3 - 9 January 2010.

It’s the longest, toughest Surfboat Race in the world over open sea.
