NAVY GEORGE BASS SURFBOAT MARATHON UPDATE 

DAY SIX – TATHRA TO PAMBULA – 27 KMS



The Canberra Vikings have continued their domination of the Navy George Bass

Surfboat Marathon, smashing race records in the Open Mens’ and Open Womens’

divisions.


The ladies combined crew of rowers from Canberra and Caloundra blitzed the leg record

previously held by the Vikings in 2006 by a whopping 14 minutes.

 

The men’s race record from Tathra to Pambula had remained unbeaten for 15 years.

The impressive Vikings crew managed to not only beat the record but also slice seven

minutes off the time.


The Vikings now just one win away from become the first team to take the title out twice.


In the Women’s division defending champions Woolamai were again plagued by bad

luck, falling off the pace set by the Vikings crew when one of their seats broke.


Results of the sixth days racing:


Men’s Open division

Canberra Vikings 1 hour 57 minutes 52 seconds

Bulli 2 hours 1 minute nine seconds

Wollongong City 2 hours 4 minutes 50 seconds


Overall division leader - Canberra Vikings


Woman’s Open division

Canberra Vikings 2 hours 11 minute 10 seconds

Woolamai 2 hours 16 minutes 20 seconds

Woolamai 2nds 2 hours 22 minutes 28 seconds


Overall division leader - Canberra Vikings / Caloundra


Men’s Veteran division

Narooma 2 hours 5 minutes 18 seconds

North Steyne 2 hours 7 minutes 3 seconds

Bulli 2 hours 8 minutes 41 seconds


Overall division leader - North Steyne

The seventh day of racing starts at Merimbula at 9am and finishes in Eden, a distance of

22kms.

The Navy George Bass Surfboat Marathon is the longest, toughest open sea Surfboat

Race in the world.  The gruelling marathon involves teams rowing their surfboats along

190km of the south coast of NSW from Bateman’s Bay to Eden.
