HATS OFF TO 1907 CARLTON PREMIERSHIP CAP

Archie Snell may not be a household name, but his memory as one of Carlton’s early premiership players

lives on in a rare 1907 VFL Premiership Cap to be auctioned in Melbourne next month.

Snell first played for the club in 1902 and ended his career with Carlton 92 games and 56 goals later.  His

debut match in Round 2 also happened to be the club’s 14th straight loss, the greatest-ever losing sequence in

its history.  But it was also the year that Jack Worrall joined the Blues, becoming the game’s first full-time

coach.

This exceptional piece of AFL memorabilia will be sold by Leski Auctions on Monday, August 18th at

5.30pm.

The lot also includes a 1959 newspaper article showing a young Carlton fan wearing the cap during the finals.

“Collectibles from the early years of Australian Rules Football are in huge demand, in part because so few of

them are offered for public sale,” says Charles Leski.

“These items are significant not only as representative of the game’s history, but because they are uniquely

Australian.  To own something from this era is to possess part of our unique heritage.”

Lot 1347 has a pre-sale estimate of $5,000 - $10,000.
