Harry Kewell returns to Fairfield to unveil public artwork celebrating his achievements

Socceroo Harry Kewell will unveil an art installation, designed in his honour, in the Fairfield CBD on Sunday 11 October as part of Fairfield City Council's 'Faces of Fairfield' program.

'Faces of Fairfield' highlights the achievements of well-known Fairfield City residents and past recipients include former Prime Minister The Hon Gough Whitlam AC QC and former Olympian Michael Wenden.

Harry Kewell was born in Smithfield before making his mark on the world football scene at the age of 17 when he debuted for Leeds United. Harry is currently playing for the champions of Turkey, Galatasaray AS and has been a central figure in Australia's recent success in international football including its qualification for both the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.

"Faces of Fairfield is an important project for our City each artwork reminds us of the impact that our own local people can have. Each artwork strives to instil community pride pride in our people and pride in our City," says the Mayor of Fairfield City, Nick Lalich.

"Harry Kewell is one of Australia's greatest football players and sportsmen. He is an inspiration to many people across the world, and most importantly, he is an inspiration to our local community showing us all that if you set your mind to something you can achieve great things in your chosen field," says the Mayor.

"Our community is honoured to acknowledge Harry's achievements and we are honoured that he is able to join us in unveiling his own 'Faces of Fairfield' installation."
