GOLD STUDS CONFIRM AUSTRALIA’S MOST STYLISH BATSMAN

Victor Trumper is regarded as the most stylish batsman of the so-called Golden Age, the period leading up

to the outbreak of World War 1.  Now an auction of his 18ct gold shirt studs proves it beyond doubt!

The set of three studs was worn by Trumper during the 1902 tour of England.  Each stud features the initials

‘V.T.’ calligraphically engraved.  The set is offered for sale in the original green Morocco box.  The item was

purchased in 1997 from the collection of Indian-born cricket fanatic, Srikantan Ramamurthy.

The 1902 tour of England is considered to be the highlight of Trumper’s career.  In the 53 innings he played,

Trumper scored 2,570 runs without a single ‘not out’.  He also became the first player to achieve the rare feat

of making a century on the first morning of a Test match.  He scored 103 before lunch against England at

Old Trafford.

“Victor Trumper is an Australian sporting legend,

one of the first of our cricketing dynasty” says Charles

Leski.

“We usually associate hats, bats and balls with cricket memorabilia, so these gold studs are quite rare and

important in understanding the life of such an accomplished sportsman.”

Lot 643 will be offered for sale by Leski Auctions in Melbourne on Wednesday, December 16th at 5.00pm.

It has

a pre-sale estimate of $3,000

-

$4,000.  (NB:  Image available
