Gold medal winning Olympian signs with Telstra


In his first major sponsorship deal since wining a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic

Games, diver Matthew Mitcham has been appointed an ambassador for Telstra.


Mitcham will represent the company before a wide variety of corporate and community

audiences, including internal and external Telstra events, business functions and product

launches.


Executive Director of Brands and Marketing Communications, Amanda Johnston-Pell, said that

Mitcham will be an asset to Telstra. 


“Matthew’s performance at the Olympics last year was sensational, and he demonstrated all the

characteristics that we look for in our ambassadors – confidence, passion and excellence in his

sport,” Ms Johnston-Pell said.


“Matthew is a positive role model for all Australians, and we look forward to working with him

as his diving career progresses,” she said.


Matthew Mitcham said he was looking forward to working with Telstra in the year ahead.


“Telstra has a long history of supporting Australian sport, and I am really excited about this

opportunity to work with such an iconic Australian company,” Mr Mitcham said.


Telstra is a major sponsor of Australian sport, supporting swimming, rugby league, surf life-

saving, AFL, as well as the Australian Olympic and Paralympic teams.


Telstra has recently re-signed several Telstra ambassadors including; NRL players Matt Cooper,

Mat Rogers, Kurt Gidley and Nathan Hindmarsh, as well as ex-swimming champ Brooke

Hanson.


Telstra’s contracts with these athletes, including Matthew Mitcham, will continue until 31

December 2009.
