Footy Finals Kick Off On Big Screen In Marysville on Friday
Lindy Allen, Director of Regional Arts Victoria said the building of the BIG SCREEN in Marysville
was on target with the screen scheduled to go live Friday night for the first football final.
Ms Allen said It was the first time in Victorias history that a big screen has been hosted in a
regional setting .
The structure of the eighteen tonne screen has was erected yesterday in the small tourist town
devastated by the Black Saturday Bushfires with sound systems being added today for a day of
testing to take place on Thursday
Project partners Fed Square, Centacare Catholic Family Services, Regional Arts Victoria and
the Marysville and Triangle Development Group and keen to provide a new hub for Marysville
residents and a new attraction for visitors. Funding from the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust has
enabled the appointment of a Local Project Manager..
Ms Allen said, The big screen project has the capacity to support the production of material by
local people, enabling them to make meaning of the experiences theyve had and to draw in
those who might not normally seek counselling to become part of this important healing
process.
Janet Cribbes, Project Co-ordinator Bushfire Community Recovery for Centacare Catholic
Family Services, a major sponsor of the project, said the Marysville Big Screen is aimed at
providing a significant cultural, social and sporting focus providing a unique gathering space for
many events for a seventeen week season.
The Marysville Big Screen opens up potential for special community activities and performances
which can be exhibited on the screen.
