Expert comment on AFL drug tests
The AFL will conduct a two-year trial of a controversial hair-testing procedure,
which can detect illegal drugs up to three months after they have been used.
How do hair tests work?
Do different hair types hold drugs for longer?
Which drugs can be detected through hair tests under current technology?
Are there risks associated with analysing hair samples for drugs?
RMIT Universitys Professor Philip Marriott is an expert on sport drug testing.
Professor Marriott has worked with international anti-doping agencies and is across
the latest developments in drug analysis procedures.
As Professor of Separation Science in the School of Applied Sciences, he has
published more than 200 research papers and book chapters in the field of
advanced separation analysis procedures.
Professor Marriott is available for interview on the AFLs controversial method of
detecting drug use among players and the science behind hair testing for drugs.
