District footballers to tackle life's issues


More than 250 junior footballers from Ballarat's surrounding leagues will gather at
Marty Busch Reserve in Sebastopol this Sunday to take part in the Ballarat & District
Junior Football Carnival.

The Victorian Country Football League (VCFL) inter-league carnival sees young
players tackle each other on the field, and a V/Line Life Training Program will see
them tackle some of life's issues off the field.

The V/Line Life Training program has been designed to educate thousands of junior
footballers across the state about the importance of making positive choices in life.

The program focuses on areas such as diet, obesity, alcohol, drugs, isolation,
depression and suicide.

This weekend, players can look forward to a Life Training session presented by ex-
Richmond Tigers player Mark Chaffey.

V/Line Life Training ambassador, and current AFL star Nathan Thompson said each
session discusses the effects certain decisions can have on people's lives.

"Through the V/Line Life Training Program we educate young footballers on taking
responsibility for their choices and ensuring these choices are positive ones," Mr
Thompson said.

V/Line CEO, Rob Barnett said the V/Line Life Training program is supported by
leading youth mental health organisation Kids Help Line.

"V/Line has been a partner of the VCFL for five years and we're glad to be able to
provide such a valuable program in regional Victoria.
