DENNIS LILLEE ‘BAGGY GREEN’ COULD BRING RECORD SCORE

Australian ‘quick’ Dennis Lillee was regarded as the outstanding fast bowler of his generation and his record

haul of 355 Test wickets places him among the all-time greats of cricket.  The one record that still endures is

his partnership with wicket keeper, Rod Marsh.  The scorecard entry 'c Marsh b Lillee' appeared 95 times in

Tests, a partnership record between wicketkeeper and bowler that ranks ahead of Adam Gilchrist and Glenn

McGrath.

It is extremely rare for a Dennis Lillee Baggy Green

to come up for public auction, which explains the

presale estimate of $15,000 - $20,000.  It could eclipse the price realized for the Allan Border cap auctioned

by Leski Auctions in June this year.

It will be one of three Baggy Greens offered for sale by Leski Auctions in Melbourne on Monday, August

18th at 5.30pm.

The other caps are Tom Veiver’s 1964 Baggy Green and Graeme Wood’s 1985 Baggy Green.  These have

pre-sale estimates of $12,000 - $15,000 and $10,000 - $12,000 respectively.

“This year has been rich pickings with a record number of Baggy Greens being offered by Leski Auctions,”

says Charles Leski.  “In any given year we might see three or four, but in the first eight months of this year

we will have auctioned three times that number.”

Mr Leski says memorabilia is proving to be one of the most resilient investments and he expects spirited

bidding from investors and ‘cricket tragics’ the world over via an on-line, real-time bidding system.
