MEDIA RELEASE

November 5th, 2010

The Coastal Clash – a new multi-sport event is launched in Western Australia

On the eve of the Anaconda Adventure Race in Augusta, Rapid Ascent is pleased to announce the

launch of a new multisport event in Western Australia called the Coastal Clash.  Western Australian’s

just love their sport, adventure and the spectacular outdoors as demonstrated by them making the

Anaconda Adventure Race the largest in the world.  To quench their thirst the Coastal Clash has been

designed as a weekend sports festival satisfying every sportsperson to be held at Lancelin, north of

Perth, on March 26th and 27th, 2011.

The Coastal Clash is a mass participation sports weekend for everyone that brings together the

popular disciplines of running, road cycling, swimming, ocean paddling plus a bit of fun in the dunes

into an event consisting seven different races over two days.

Each race is a stand alone event so if you’re ‘just into swimming’ then this is for you, if you’re ‘just into

cycling’ then this is for you - but if you’re a multisport junkie then there’s the premier King and Queen

of the Coast category in which case you do them all!

This unique format event is designed as a fun sporting weekend that’s got something for just about

everyone. It’s designed to keep those who want sport, sport and more sport very happy, but at the

same time cater for those who just want to do one event and then sit on the beach and take it easy

during the afternoon.

Tying the weekend together will be the premier King of the Coast and Queen of the Coast individual

and team categories for your jack-of-all-trades who want to do it all. Individuals compete in the 5

designated events with the weekend winner claiming the elusive title of Coastal King and Coastal

Queen. Meanwhile, teams can enter a separate person in each of the 5 designated races to

determine the real Weekend Warriors.

Races held over the weekend will include:

SATURDAY 26th

6km and 12km* Coastal Run

18km Ocean Paddle*

Eliminator Cash Criterium

Saturday night dinner and party

SUNDAY 27th

2km Ocean Swim*

8km Stand Up Paddle (SUP) and

Novice Paddle Race

Kids triathlon

37km Road Time Trial*

2km Sand Dune Dash for Cash*

* These 5 events constitute premier King of the

Coast and Queen of the Coast overall title for individuals and teams of up to 4 people (one member

does the Dash for Cash as an additional event).

“We’re pretty excited about this new event,” says Rapid Ascent’s Event Manager Sam Maffett, “by

being a weekend of separate races it means that if you’re just into one sport then you can still come

up and have fun and don’t have to organise a team to participate if you don’t want to. And Lancelin is

such a cool place have an event like this, it’s got a great coastline, protected bay and these awesome

sand dunes and it’s only a little over an hour from Perth – perfect!”

The host for this sporting bonanza is the small fishing and tourism township of Lancelin, just 94

kilometres north of Perth. Lancelin stretches along the edge of a natural bay which is protected from

the Indian Ocean by outer reefs and has a couple of islands immediately offshore just adding to its

picturesque coastal setting. Add in some huge migrating sand dunes behind the town and you have a

landscape that’s ideal for an event like the Coastal Clash.

Add in plenty of socialising with a dinner and party on Saturday night, a sociable and light hearted

race attitude and the new Coastal Clash will be a multi-sport weekend for everyone.
