Bradman’s Greatest Cricket Bat for Sale

MELBOURNE, Dec. 3 /Medianet International-AsiaNet/ --

It was a record that stood for 64 years and it took a batsman of the calibre of

Brian Lara to beat it.  Sir Donald Bradman’s 452 not out was scored in 1930 in a

match between NSW and Queensland.  In 1994, Brian Lara playing for Warwickshire,

hit a remarkable 501 not out to set a new record.  But the emotional winner

remains the Don.

The bat that Bradman used during that historic match is being offered for sale by

Leski Auctions in Melbourne.  It includes the signatures of both domestic teams,

the Australian and England teams from the 2nd Test at Lords also in 1930, and by

the West Indies (1930 – 31) and South African (1931 – 32) teams.  A total of 86

signatures (Bradman’s signature appears twice).

Among the signatories are Victor Richardson, Stan McCabe, Wally Hammond, Harold

Larwood, George Headley (known as the ‘Black Bradman’), Learie Constantine, Jock

Cameron, Bill Woodfull, and Bill Ponsford.

Lot 128 will be offered for sale by Leski Auctions in Melbourne on Monday,

December 15th at 5.30pm with a presale estimate of $10,000 - $20,000.

“This bat has been described as possessing a certain magic,” says Charles Leski.

“Unless you are obsessed by cricket this is just an inanimate object; an object

which happened to cement Bradman’s status as the greatest cricketer to have ever

played this noble game.”
