Australia’s World Cup bid

–– Expert available for comment ––

Australia’s chances of hosting the world’s biggest sporting event will be boosted

today when the Federal Government announces $45 million in funding for our bid

for the 2018 World Cup.

With financial backing now secure, what are the next steps in the bidding process?

What kind of infrastructure development does Australia need to be seriously

considered as a potential host?

Do we have enough high-quality stadiums to meet FIFA’s requirements?

And does Australia have any real chance against the stiff competition from

countries like England and the US?

RMIT University’s Dr Con Stavros is an expert on sports marketing.

Dr Stavros closely follows developments in Australian soccer and is across the

intricacies of the bidding process for the FIFA World Cup.

A senior lecturer in Marketing at RMIT’s School of Economics, Finance and

Marketing, he is available for comment on efforts to secure the 2018 World Cup for

Australia.
