AUSSIES OUT BUT BEACH VOLLEYBALL

WORLD TOUR ACTION CONTINUES

Beijing hopes for Olympians Natalie Cook and Tamsin Barnett remain alive after the pair were beaten by eighth

seed German pair Okka Rau and Stephanie Pohl at the SWATCH FIVB Beach Volley World Tour – Adelaide

Australia Open.

The top ranked Australian pair, seeded sixth in the competition had a strong start to the day posting an early win

against the 28 seeded Italians Gattelli/Perrotta.  Barnett/Cook then disposed of the 14 seed, American team

Wacholder/Turner on centre court 21/18, 21/18 before confronting the tough German pair.  The home-town crowd

couldn’t help counter the Rau/Pohl defence with the Aussie team going down in two sets 22/20, 21/16.

Also in the women’s draw Summer Lochowicz and Eileen Romanowski (9 seed) were knocked out of the

competition in a close match against the Russian 23rd seed Uryadova/Shiryaeva 21/18, 21/19.

The Adelaide crowd was sorry to see the top Australian men’s team and sixth seed Andrew Schacht and Josh

Slack lose in an exciting three set match against US team (28 seed) Williams/Metzger (21/18, 19/21, 17/15) on

centre court this morning.

The competition continues tomorrow with the finals on Sunday.
