Aussie Baggy Green Values Thrash England!
Australias baggy green cricket caps are clearly worth more than any other cricketing nations
caps with price tags nearing $40,000 for Neil Harveys 48 cap, and $20,000 for the Alan
Kippaxs baggy green from the 1930s. This compares to Englands Geoff Boycott whose cap
sold in 2005 for a mere $ 4,060 and notably Simon Jones who formed part of Englands
successful 2005 Ashes squad, which barely fetched $5,000
Most of us dont need reminding of the staggering $425,000 forked out for one of the Dons
baggies a few years ago, but from all reports no other cricket nation would have shelled out
more than $10,000 for a Test cricket cap.
What is the fascination, what drives this felt green cap up in price? Well its quite simple
really; its significance, the history and, Australians love the baggy green more than any other
cricket nation embraces its own cap.
In years to come what will the dashing young gun, Phil Hughes cap be worth? Would he even
let it go? Probably not! While Hughes is gearing up for the greatest contest of his short
career in the Ashes, he still has the presence of mind to think of others
And how many 20 somethings set-up their own scholarship? Well Hughes has donated shirts
and bats to raise funds for, The Phillip Hughes Scholarship
