Australian F1 history under the hammer - for a cause

The signed Red Bull shirt commemorating Mark Webber’s first GP win

By the time the Formula One circus reached the Nürburgring for the German Grand Prix

midway through 2009, it had been 28 long and barren years since an Australian had stood on

the top step of the podium.

In fact, no Australian had even qualified on pole position for a Formula One race since Alan

Jones in 1980 and none had won since Jones took the last of his 12 career victories at Las

Vegas in 1981.

But in Germany in July 2009, all that changed with Mark Webber thrilling Australian fans

around the world by dominating both qualifying and the race to claim his first F1 victory.

Now, motoring enthusiasts have a chance to own a piece of that history.

Bridgestone Australia Ltd. is offering the chance to own an official Red Bull Pit Shirt signed by

Mark Webber and teammate Sebastian Vettel through an online auction.  The framed shirt

commemorates Mark’s historic victory and the team’s one-two finish at the Nürburgring. A

photo of the podium presentation also part of the frame.

(AEST) and will run until 5.30pm (AEST) Tuesday 9th November 2010.

All proceeds from the auction will be donated by Bridgestone to the Leukaemia Foundation.

“There would be few Formula One fans who wouldn’t recall what an amazing race Mark drove

at the German Grand Prix to claim his maiden victory,” said Stanley Toh, Marketing Manager

for Bridgestone Australia Ltd.

“He incurred a drive-through penalty for making contact with Rubens Barrichello at the start of

the race – something that would normally be enough to put a driver out of contention for the

win.

“However, Mark drove with incredible pace that weekend to dominate the race and record his

historic first grand prix victory. Of course, the fact that he did so using Bridgestone Potenza

tyres is something of which we are extremely proud!”

Mr Toh urged all grand prix fans to go to the web site and bid generously for their chance to

win.

Bridgestone Australia Ltd. is a proud supporter of the Leukaemia Foundation and was Principal

Partner of the 2010 Light the Night event. Bridgestone is also the major sponsor of the

Foundation’s Patient Transport vehicle fleet and hold ongoing fundraising activities for events

such as Shave for a Cure.

Bridgestone Australia Ltd. is a subsidiary of Bridgestone Corporation, the largest tyre manufacturer in the world.

Bridgestone New Zealand Ltd. is a subsidiary of Bridgestone Australia Ltd.
