AFL coaches to address National Elite Sports Council (NESC) Forum

Leading AFL coaches Neil Craig (Adelaide) and Rodney Eade (Western Bulldogs) will be guest speakers at

the National Elite Sports Council (NESC) Forum to be held at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) on

Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 November 2009.

The National Elite Sports Council (NESC) was established in 1993 and comprises the directors of

Australia’s key state, territory and national sports institutes and academies.

NESC is responsible for providing the daily training and high performance sport servicing environment for

the majority of Australia’s high performance athletes and programs on the Olympic, Paralympic and

Commonwealth Games schedules.

Craig and Eade will address the NESC Forum discussing their experiences as elite coaches and the continual

challenge that coaching presents in adopting new ideas that can be applied directly to their working

environment.

AIS Director Professor Peter Fricker said a number of leading experts would attend the NESC Forum,

covering areas such as coaching, technology, sport science and medicine.

“The Forum is an important event whereby the innovative ideas of coaches and specialist support staff can

be shared and new links formed,” Professor Fricker said.

“We’re delighted to have gathered some of Australia’s finest sporting experts like Neil and Rodney who are

all eager to pass on their extensive expertise.”

“The reality is to be internationally competitive in the fierce world of sport, athletes must be provided with a

high level of service.”

“NESC is an important part of that service, providing a more coordinated approach to the delivery of high

performance programs for our athletes.”

New chairman of NESC, Steve Lawrence said the sharing of information and knowledge across the

Australian high performance network had never been more critical in light of the greater international

competition from rivals such as the United Kingdom, France and Germany.

NESC represents the investment of more than $82million of annual collective expenditure on high

performance sport directly through the respective independent sports institutes and academies.
